A patient presented with complete rupture of the EPL (Extensor Pollicis Longus) tendon of the thumb, with tendon ends retracted—making primary repair impossible.
📌 We opted for EPL tendon reconstruction using a tendon graft, harvested and meticulously tunneled to restore thumb extension.
🔧 Tendon grafting is a reliable option when the native tendon is severely damaged or scarred beyond direct repair.
✅ Post-operative rehabilitation was initiated early, focusing on restoring fine motor movements and thumb mobility.
🔄 The patient is regaining excellent function, with the ability to extend the thumb and perform routine hand tasks comfortably.
📚 EPL injuries, if left untreated or repaired improperly, can significantly impair hand function. Advanced microsurgical techniques and tendon grafting can restore movement effectively.
